On Thursday 3rd July 2024, the Minister of Finance, Infrastructure and the Niue Public Service, Hon. Crossley Tatui, hosted a presentation ceremony at Fale Fono II, recognising staff from the Department of Transport for their successful completion of technical training.

Staff from the Heavy Plant, Outside Services, Maritime, and Civil Aviation divisions attended the ceremony, where certificates were presented to the Head of Heavy Plant Rhys Tatui, Assistant Head Marcus Puletama, and Mechanical Officer Desmond Togiakona. The certificates acknowledged the successful completion of specialist training in crane operation and other technical competencies.

Director of Transport, Mr. Morgan Mougavalu, stated that the department remains committed to keeping staff up to date with national and international standards for operational and management excellence. He highlighted the department’s critical role in delivering 24/7 heavy machinery services and technical emergency responses, ensuring essential support for government operations. The Director also stressed the importance of asset management, citing the significant costs associated with the acquisition and upkeep of government machinery and infrastructure. He noted that the presence of key departmental personnel at events like this supports the drive toward higher performance standards and greater team cohesion.

In his address, Minister Tatui acknowledged the continued hard work and dedication of the department. He encouraged staff to maintain high standards in delivering services to the people of Niue and expressed his sincere appreciation to the Government of Japan and partner organisations for their ongoing assistance and commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Minister Tatui concluded by urging the department to collaborate with the Department of Foreign Affairs to revive and enhance the JICA training programme, enabling further staff development and capacity building in the years to come.
