Joint Press Release - 11 November Wellington New Zealand

On 11th November 2025, a signing ceremony took place for a grant aid of one hundred and forty million Japanese Yen (¥140,000,000), approximately1,520,000 NZ dollars under Japan’s Grant Aid for Economic and Social Development Programme. The exchange of Notes was signed and exchanged between Honourable Mr Dalton Tagelagi, Prime Minister of Niue and His Excellency Mr OSAWA Makoto, Ambassador of Japan in Niue.

This year's Programme has provided machinery and equipment including a wheel loader, excavator, five off-road bikes, along with a tractor & slasher, continuing its focus on ongoing commitment to disaster management.

At the beginning of the Signing Ceremony, Ambassador OSAWA extended his heartfelt congratulations on the 10th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Niue. He expressed his strong belief that the newly established programme will significantly contribute to advancing Niue’s National Strategic Plan (NNSP) and to the well-being of the people and communities of Niue.

Ambassador OSAWA concluded his remarks by sincerely wishing that this programme would be successfully completed with cooperation and he hoped that this would also become another symbol of the friendship and cooperation between Japan and Niue, and highlighted the tenth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
