The Government of Niue is honoured to host the Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC) Annual Officials 138th Meeting, commencing on Friday 9th May 2025. The meeting will bring together senior fisheries officials from the 17 FFA Member countries, alongside regional and international partners.

This year’s meeting marks Niue’s third time hosting the Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC), the first being in 1992. Niue will take on the role as the Chair of the FFC from Nauru and New Zealand as the Vice Chair. The official handover will take place during the Officials Meeting on Friday, with the Ministerial Chair to be formally transferred to Niue’s Minister of Natural Resources in July. Notably, Niue is currently the Chair of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC), the first time a Niuean has held this position highlighting the country’s growing leadership in regional fisheries governance.

Niue has consistently played an active role in regional fisheries discussions. Hosting the meeting provides an opportunity for fellow FFA Members to observe how a small administration continues to meet its obligations. It also reinforces the need for strong alignment between national, regional, and subregional fisheries efforts.

The Forum Fisheries Committee will be hosting two principal meetings in Niue this year, beginning with the Officials Meeting this month, followed by the Ministerial Meeting held in July 2025. These meetings play a critical role in coordinating regional fisheries policy and advancing collaborative approaches to the sustainable management of Pacific tuna resources.

The Minister for the Ministry of Natural Resources, Hon. Mona Ainu’u stated "We are proud to welcome our regional colleagues and partners to our shores for this important occasion. Hosting both the FFC Officials and FFA Ministerial Meeting affirms Niue’s commitment to regional cooperation and highlights our shared responsibility to protect and manage our ocean resources sustainably".

The Government of Niue looks forward to productive and collaborative discussions that will strengthen regional fisheries governance and reinforce the Pacific’s leadership in sustainable ocean management.
