The Prime Minister of Niue, Honorable Dalton Tagelagi stood alongside members of the community this morning to commemorate ANZAC Day, an occasion of deep historical significance for Niue, New Zealand, Australia, and the wider Pacific region.

The dawn service honored the 150 Niuean men who volunteered during the First World War to join the New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF), serving in the New Zealand Pioneer Battalion.

ANZAC Day in Niue is a time to pay tribute to all Niuean servicemen, who served in both World War I and World War II, our veterans who have served in the years since, and the men and women who continue to serve today. Their dedication across generations is a reflection of Niue’s unwavering contribution to peace and security.

We were honored this morning by the presence of New Zealand’s Veterans Minister and Associate Defence Minister, Honorable Chris Penk, along with service representatives of the New Zealand and Australian Defence Forces. Their participation reaffirms the shared history and enduring partnership between Niue, New Zealand, and Australia.

The Government of Niue extends its gratitude to all who gathered in reflection and remembrance, honoring the past and carrying its legacy forward for future generations.
