The Government of Niue this morning welcomed His Excellency Mr. Vincent Paul Harrington, who officially presented his Letters of Credentials to the Prime Minister of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi, and Cabinet Ministers.

The presentation marks the start of His Excellency’s tenure as the 5th Resident High Commissioner of Australia to Niue, succeeding former High Commissioner Olivia Phongkham, who departed in December 2025.

Prime Minister Tagelagi warmly welcomed His Excellency and expressed appreciation for Australia’s ongoing support and partnership, noting the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

“We warmly welcome High Commissioner Harrington to Niue and congratulate him on his appointment. We look forward to further strengthening the relationship between Niue and Australia. As Australia prepares for COP31, we acknowledge and support its leadership in guiding this important global event.” said Prime Minister Tagelagi.

His Excellency Mr. Harrington brings extensive experience as a seasoned public servant, having served as Assistant Director for the Future Made in Australia and Southeast Asia Section at DFAT. His distinguished career includes senior roles in Canberra and overseas postings in Manila, Bogotá, and Cairo, as well as leadership positions across DFAT, AusAID, and the Department of Infrastructure. His expertise spans development, diplomacy, and international relations across regions including the Middle East, ASEAN, South America, and Africa.

In his remarks, High Commissioner Harrington expressed his commitment to building on the strong foundations laid by his predecessors, with a focus on initiatives such as Niue Waste Water Management, Niue Ocean Wide, and other areas of mutual interest that advance shared goals between Niue and Australia.

The Government of Niue is confident that High Commissioner Harrington will play a pivotal role in fostering increased cooperation and understanding between Australia and Niue during his tenure.
