On Tuesday 17th September 2024, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Niue, His Excellency Kim Chang-sik officially presented his Letter of Credence to the Prime Minister of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi and Cabinet.

Ambassador Chang-sik arrived in Niue on Monday 16th September 2024, for his official visit as the first Ambassador of Korea to Niue, following the establishment of diplomatic relations on May 29th 2023 during the margins of the summit between Korea and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).

During his visit, Ambassador Chang-sik will hold courtesy calls with Cabinet Ministers and the Speaker of the Niue Assembly, further strengthening ties between Niue and Korea.
Niue and the Republic of Korea have engaged in high-level exchanges for many years, with Korea providing invaluable support through its Official Development Assistance (ODA) program.

Projects funded by Korea in Niue have focused on clean water initiatives, good sanitation, and promoting hygiene and healthy living. Additionally, Korea has contributed funding through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for regional meetings, the re-flooring, the re-flooring of post-Cyclone recovery houses and the construction of the Early Childhood Education Play Centre.

The Prime Minister of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi in welcoming the Ambassador remarked,
“It is a great honour to receive the Ambassador of Korea to Niue, His Excellency Kim Chang-sik for his first official visit to Niue following the establishment of our diplomatic relations. We express our deepest appreciation to the Republic of Korea for their continued support and contributions toward the well-being of our community, particularly through their funding of essential projects that enhance our infrastructure and promote healthy living. We look forward to strengthening our partnership in the years ahead."
