Community Advisory - ManageMyHealth App Cyber Security Breach Incident in NZ

2026-01-08

Fakaalofa lahi atu,
We are writing to inform our community about a recent cyber security breach involving the ManageMyHealth patient portal in New Zealand on December 31, 2025. This patient portal is widely used across New Zealand by GP’s and their patients to organise, access, and communicate personal health information. This means any patient that is registered and uses this patient portal is at high risk of privacy and confidentiality breach of their identification and health information.

Immediate measures by ManageMyHealth were made to contain the incident. They have provided updates on the status of this incident on their website MMH Cyber Breach Update January 2026 | Manage My Health. ManageMyHealth confirms they are also working closely with the Privacy Commissioner of NZ and the National Cyber Security Centre who provides them with advice around notification process and ensuring compliance with the Privacy Act. The Minister of Health NZ and the Ministry of Health NZ are also working closely with ManageMyHealth.

ManageMyHealth is undergoing a forensic process to identify who has been impacted and then the process of notification will begin. Health New Zealand notes the breach of this application has not affected its systems and states there is no evidence any Health NZ systems including My Health Account, have been compromised as ManageMyHealth application has separate systems.

Important Local Impact We wish to clarify that, although the Department of Health utilizes Medtech for its internal systems, it does not operate or hold the ManageMyHealth app. At present, there is no evidence that clinical records held with our internal government systems have been affected by this cyber security breach.

However, if you are registered and use the ManageMyHealth app, please note that some of your information therein could potentially be affected.
