The Government of Niue wishes to inform the public of an essential upgrade to the prepay power meters across the island. This upgrade is to ensure uninterrupted electricity service as we approach a significant deadline.

On 24 November 2024, all prepay meters will cease to operate. Therefore, it is critical to upgrade the software being used in prepay power meters before this date. Each power token has a unique Token Identifier (TID) encoded within its 20-digit sequence to prevent tokens from being reused. To ensure tokens can be used beyond November 2024, the TID reference date must be updated.

To complete this update, a technical remedy known as the 'TID Rollover' is currently being undertaken in Niue. This process involves resetting each meter to reference a new base date. This is done by entering a decoder key into the meter before entering the usual prepay power token.

For now, you can obtain a decoder key from the office of the Niue Philatelic and Numismatic Corporation (NPNC) at the Fonuakula Business Complex. You will need to enter the decoder key into your power meter before entering your power token. The decoder key only needs to be used once, as it will reset the TID reference date in your power meter. After this, you can top up as usual.

We plan to have the decoder keys available at all prepay power token vendors, including the Public Service Building, Kiwibank, and the Telecom Niue Office, in due course.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused as this process has progressed more quickly than anticipated. It is essential that all residents obtain a decoder key to reset their meters before November to avoid any disruption to their electricity services.
