The Minister of Sports, Hon. Sonya Talagi expresses gratitude to the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and the Niue Island Sports & Commonwealth Games Association (NISCGA) for their ongoing efforts to support the development of sports in Niue. While the short notice for the consultations is less than ideal, Minister Talagi appreciates the dedication of both organizations in advancing an independent review of NISCGA’s constitution.

The government of Niue acknowledges that consultations for each sports code will be conducted directly with Commonwealth representatives during their visit to the island, with no NISCGA executives present. Minister Talagi believes that this approach, conducted in good faith, will foster a better understanding of the constitution among all stakeholders. It is imperative that the constitution ultimately serves and protects the development of sports in Niue, ensuring a bright future for our young athletes.

The government of Niue strongly encourages all sports codes, athletes, and management teams to actively participate in these initial consultations. This is a significant opportunity to voice opinions and contribute to shaping a framework that will empower Niue’s sports community and help our children thrive in the years to come. This is the first of many consultations, and the government remains committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to move Niue sports forward.
