Education

Niue boasts of an almost 100% literacy rate among its population primarily because its small population base and proximity to the schools. 184 children are currently enrolled in Niue Primary School [Years 1-6] and ECE [Early Childhood Education, a holding facility for four year olds who are automatically promoted to Year 1 as soon as they have reached the age of 5] while 197 are enrolled at Niue High School [Years 7-13] Both schools follow a New Zealand based curriculum.

There is a Tertiary Institution, the University Centre of the University of the South Pacific that caters for post secondary and adult students who are pursuing pre-degree, degree and vocational qualifications of whom most are sponsored by the Australian Government AUSAid programme.

New Zealand is still the preferred study and training destination for students and public service personnel who receive annual Government Awards funded under NZAid programme.
